super bowL shif

It’s been a while since my first post. I have so many ideas that it’s overwhelming. But with Super Bowl 50 happening this weekend, I figured that this would be a good topic.

I enjoy most traditional TV events and like many people, I look forward to things repeating each year. For example, on Christmas I can always count on 24 Hours of a Christmas Story on TBS, and after New Years Eve, the SyFy channel always has a Twilight Zone Marathon. Get my drift?

There’s one sort of ironic tv tradition that has greatly changed over the years…Super Bowl commercials. Advertisers, this is the one time of year that people actually watch commercials. Why are you airing these adverts before the big game? You pay $5,000,000 for 30 seconds of tv time. And to us, it’s a re-run. Shouldn’t we see original commercials?

Moving on, I find it strange that these adverts are aired on Live TV during the morning news programs, before they air on TV. Again, these are paid advertisements. Are you paying to be aired during a live show, in between their commercial breaks? It makes no sense!

Whatever your master scheme is, the excitement is lost. There are no more “yo quiero Taco Bell” moments of surprise. No more classic Doritos moments of surprise because I voted for the best one. Isn’t that why you get paid the big bucks? I can go online and watch these adverts a head of time. They are all ruined.

The element of surprise is getting lost with all of the technology that’s out here. The shock and laughter, gone. Excitement and interest, gone. Isn’t that why you pay so much money? Don’t you want us to discuss these things over our over priced morning coffee or during a morning Keurig break?

Lastly, I understand that “L” meaning 50 in Roman numerals can have a loserish connotation. But the “L” in Super BowL could have been designed in a cool way to keep up tradition and not dumb-down Americans. For those that are superstitious, there can’t be two L’s in a game. There’s a super boW&L at the end of the game no matter how you play it. Otherwise there would be no point.

Let’s not lose our excitement and surprises. There aren’t that many things  for adults to look forward to when we mindlessly watch tv.
